Parrish Argues That Corley Declared His Candidacy Early

On December 2nd, Lubbock County Commissioner Jason Corley officially announced his intent to run for Congress. But Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish argues that Corley “declared” his candidacy early and therefor resigned his seat according to KAMC.

Parrish said Corley sent emails and press releases on November 12 announcing an exploratory committee for a congressional run. During the meeting, Parrish said Corley used a “Corley for Congress” email, along with graphics and a P.O box. Parrish added that on November 12, Corley solicited support from an individual via text, stating he was running for congress.

Reports have said that Parrish asked security to remove Corley from the building. Corley called the move by Parrish “outrageous and politically driven stunt”. According to KAMC, Parrish cited the Texas Constitution the says certain officeholders automatically resign their seat if they become candidate for another officer more than one year and 30 days before their current term ends. That includes County Commissioners.

Mark Meurer Appointed To Corley’s Seat

Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish appoint Mark Meuer to fill Corley’s seat.
