CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Some Corpus Christi ISD police officers brought holiday spirit to students a little early, trading in badges for Santa hats as part of the district’s annual Christmas giveaway.
The tradition brings officers to elementary campuses to hand out special stuffed animals to kindergarten students. On Tuesday, officers stopped by Oak Park and Gibson Elementary, surprising students with gifts and smiles.
“We tell them we’re Santa’s helpers, which we are because we’re sharing the spirit of Christmas,” CCISD Police Chief Kirby Warnke said. “So if they’ve been nice, they get a little Christmas present early.”
In total, more than 300 students received stuffed animals thanks to CCISD Police, making it a very merry Christmas for some of the district’s youngest learners.
