SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Mayor of San Antonio wants to move the city’s municipal elections from May to November.
According to a report from KENS 5, Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones says the move would not only increase voter turnout, it would also save up to 1 million dollars.
The mayor has sent an outline of the plan to city council members, who would need to approve the move by the end of the year in order to take effect.
Other large cities in Texas, including Dallas, Houston and Austin hold their municipal elections in November.
City officials will have a discussion on the mayor’s proposal at 1:30 p.m. Monday.
