The final beam rose into place on a brisk December morning as Collin College marked the topping out of its new Health Sciences Center on Dec. 3. For the Frisco Campus, the ceremony was a visible step toward a major expansion of the region’s healthcare training pipeline.

Set to open in January 2027, the three-story, 120,000-square-foot Health Sciences Center at 9700 Wade Blvd. will anchor several of the college’s fastest-growing programs. Inside, students will train on advanced simulation equipment, work in new imaging and radiology labs, and prepare for careers across multiple allied health fields.

What’s Inside The New Facility

The building’s layout reflects the college’s expanding health sciences catalog. Radiology, imaging, and sonography programs will occupy the first floor. Nursing and physical therapy will take over the second. A third-floor shell will remain unfinished for now, reserved for programs the college expects to launch later as demand grows.

“Great progress has been made toward creating this innovative learning environment,” said Dr. Neil Matkin, Collin College district president, in an official statement. “We can all be proud of contributing to a Health Sciences Center that will offer high-demand programs that align with local workforce needs. It’s a win for our students, for our healthcare partners, and for the community who will benefit from receiving care from well-trained, highly qualified healthcare professionals.”

Built For The Future

The $70 million project — supported by a guaranteed maximum construction price of about $55 million approved in mid-2025 — brings together a familiar roster of partners. PBK Architects designed the Health Sciences Center, with McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. serving as the builder and AECOM as the Owner’s Representative.

For McCarthy senior vice president Matthew Schrodel, the project carries personal meaning. A Collin College alumnus, Schrodel said contributing to the campus’s next major facility felt like coming full circle.

“The partnership between McCarthy and Collin College has been a phenomenal one,” said Matthew Schrodel, senior vice president and Dallas business unit leader at McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. “At McCarthy, we take pride in building projects that help our communities thrive, and this project is a testament to Collin College and their commitment to delivering education that aligns with what the community and local workforce needs.”

Once complete, the center will help ensure that the region’s healthcare workforce grows right along with its population, bringing more trained, homegrown talent to Frisco and beyond.
