Michigan fired coach Sherrone Moore on Wednesday, the university announced. A statement from Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said the university uncovered credible evidence that Moore “engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”

“This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior,” Manuel’s statement read.

Moore went 18-8 as the Wolverines’ head coach.

The university’s athletic department announced that Biff Poggi will serve as the interim head coach in Moore’s stead. Poggi, who joined the Wolverines ahead of the 2025 season as the program’s associate head coach, was Michigan’s acting head coach for games against Central Michigan and Nebraska while Moore served a suspension related to Michigan’s sign-stealing scandal. The Wolverines won both of those games.

Prior to that, Poggi was the head coach at Charlotte, where he was fired midway through his second season after compiling a 6-16 record.

The No. 13 Longhorns (9-3) and the No. 18 Wolverines (9-3) will kick off from Orlando at 2 p.m. CT.Â
