SAN ANTONIO — According to an Oct. 15 press release, Meals on Wheels San Antonio will be suspending service to hundreds of Bexar County clients beginning on Nov. 3.
Meals on Wheels is a service dedicated to providing meals, visits and safety checks to at-risk and homebound seniors.
The suspension comes as a result of funding cuts from the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG), and will remain in effect for an undetermined length of time.
Meals on Wheels will also be suspending its AniMeals program, which provides food for pets also affected by their owners’ inability to leave their home to provide meals for them.
The release says that eligibility for the program is determined by Texas Health and Human Services through their Consumer Needs Evaluation. With the cuts, only those with the “highest levels of need” will be able to continue receiving services, according to the program.
Clients who need meals delivered to them can still get them by making a monthy $100 donation to the program. The current schedule of delivery will continue through Oct. 27.
