Sadly today is the anniversary of the assassination of one of the greatest guitarists of all time and many are going to pay their respects at the Arlington cemetery.
For many years, December 8th was known as the day that John Lennon was shot and killed. Sadly in 2004, another musician was added to this anniversary. However, this time it was on stage in the middle of a concert. Damageplan was playing at the Alrosa Villa nightclub that night and a man rushed the stage in the middle of the first song shooting and killing Dimebag Darrell.
Many today will be leaving mementos at Dimebag Darrell’s gravesite. Which is located at Moore Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens at 1219 North Davis Drive in Arlington. After vandalism throughout the years, the grave site is now fenced in. However fans still leave guitar picks, dimes, and even small bottles of whiskey in memory of Dime. Vinnie Paul was laid to rest next to his brother in 2018. Although Vinnie and Dime have massive grave markers, their mother Carolyn Abbott, is also buried in the fenced in area as well.Â
Sadly the Alrosa Villa Nightclub in Columbus, Ohio is no more. It was sold in 2019 and during the Covid lockdown in 2020 it officially ceased operations. The property was bulldozed to make way for a new apartment complex in 2021. Throughout the years, many would leave items outside the nightclub on this day. That is no longer the case.
