The 120th San Antonio Deutsche Weihnachtsfeier will embrace the German language to tell the tale of the first Christmas using scripture, poetry, prayers, choral voices, congregational singing and instrumental music.
The San Antonio Liederkranz and the Beethoven Männerchor, the oldest German choir west of the Mississippi, to provide the performances.
German culture has an idiosyncratic but lasting influence on Central Texas, since the influx of refugees from that country largely stemmed from political issues the preceded both World Wars.
If you happen to know the words to “Stille Nacht” (“Silent Night”) or “O Tannenbaum” (“Oh, Christmas Tree”), feel free to join in. If not, lyrics are provided, so give it your best.
Free, 5-6:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, Trinity University, Margarite B. Parker Chapel, One Trinity Place, (210) 264-6749, saweihnachtsfeier.org.
