DALLAS —  The new NBA season is less than a week away as the Dallas Mavericks begin the year against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, Oct. 22.

All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving will be sidelined for the season opener because of a knee injury he suffered last March, but he is expected to make his return sometime early in 2026.

Spectrum News sports reporter Adam Rossow recently sat down with Irving for a one-on-one interview at Mavericks media day to discuss adding No. 1 draft pick Cooper Flagg to the roster, along with Irving’s injury rehab.

“Being at my age, inevitably, I think about how much longer am I playing? Am I going to be able to be at a higher level?,” Irving said. “The answer is yes, I’m gonna continue to play and I’m gonna be at a higher level. But now it’s on my timeline.”
