SAN ANTONIO – The highly anticipated Congo Falls, a two-acre gorilla habitat that will feature the largest gorilla tower in the world, will open at the San Antonio Zoo on Saturday, according to the zoo’s website and Instagram page. The new exhibit was also featured on NBC’s “TODAY Show” on Friday.

Congo Falls will feature gorillas from Zoo Atlanta, the Houston Zoo and the Dallas Zoo. This will, according to the San Antonio Zoo, mark the first time that gorillas have been present there in over 30 years.

There will be a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. on Dec. 13 and other festivities to mark the grand opening, including a drone show that the zoo says “will light up the sky in a dazzling tribute to gorillas and conservation.”

Earlier this fall, one of the gorillas making his way from the Dallas Zoo unexpectedly died, delaying the relocation of some of the other gorillas.

Congo Falls will feature three distinct gorilla habitats and a 30-foot waterfall, as well as the 70-foot gorilla tower, which will give the gorillas a view of the San Antonio skyline.

Admission to Congo Falls is free for zoo members and is included with admission.
