CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 21-year-old Mission man was killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 285 just west of Riviera, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
DPS said the crash happened at about 6:01 a.m. as a 2009 Nissan Sentra driven by Angel Brizeno was traveling eastbound in rain and fog. Investigators determined the Sentra failed to maintain its lane, traveled onto the eastbound shoulder and then overcorrected while re-entering the roadway, crossing into the westbound lane.
A westbound 2017 Freightliner towing a trailer struck the Sentra on the passenger side, DPS said. The 47-year-old Freightliner driver was not injured.
Brizeno was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Judge Christopher Lee, according to DPS Public Information Officer Sgt. Mallory. His family has been notified.
The crash remains under investigation by troopers from the Kingsville Highway Patrol Office, Mallory said.
