Spurs fans can watch the NBA semifinals, sled down a “realistic” snow hill and check out Victor Wembanyama’s favorite Christmas movie this weekend — all in one place.
The Rock at La Cantera is hosting a two-day free family get-together at the facility’s Frost Plaza called called Wemby’s Wonderland, team officials said Friday. No, the 7-foot-4 star center, won’t be there, but it is pretty cool that we’ll learn what his most beloved holiday movie is.
The event will celebrate holiday season from 6-10 p.m. Saturday and 2-6 p.m. Sunday. It includes a Spurs Cup watch party, appearances from the Coyote and arena host Zay Zay along with a 12-foot-high “snow” hill for family play.
On Saturday, attendees can watch the Spurs compete to advance to the NBA Cup Tournament finals. Zay Zay will emcee as the Silver and Black play against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the semifinals. Tipoff will happen at 8 p.m.
Along with the watch party, Zay Zay will emcee the holiday movie event on Sunday. Organizers will reveal and stream Wembanyama’s favorite Christmas movie around 4:20 p.m.
Zay Zay also will be joined by Santa Claus, the Coyote and others, according to the team. Photo opportunities with Santa Claus will take place 6-8 p.m. Saturday, and the Coyote will be onsite 4-6 p.m. on Sunday.
As a giving element, Wemby’s Wonderland will host a toy drive to help Boysville distribute gifts to San Antonio children in need. The nonprofit children’s home provides a safe environment to around 300 children annually, and guests can bring new and unwrapped toys or hygiene products for newborns to 23-year-olds.
Throughout the weekend, other continuous events include:
The snow sledding hill, open for free rides to all ages
Ornament decorating stations with four ornament options
A station for children to write letters to Santa
A collaboration with Miles for Military bringing a special surprise for a San Antonio military family
Simultaneous events with Holidays at the Rock, including the Frost Plaza’s skating rink and holiday-themed food from Santa’s Shack
The free tickets for Wemby’s Wonderland must be reserved online in advance, according to the Spurs. Organizers will limit the event to 2,500 attendees.
