On Saturday morning, it was announced that South Carolina starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers, who many of us assumed would enter the 2026 NFL Draft, will return for the Gamecocks for a final season, just days after head coach Shane Beamer hired Kendal Briles as the program’s new offensive coordinator and play caller.

Yes, in the world of NIL, deals can be made to keep star players on the roster. Even after a down season, Sellers was considered the No. 3-ranked quarterback on ESPN Draft expert Mel Kiper’s big board, and for Texas A&M, head coach Mike Elko and his 2026 roster will face Sellers one last time in Columbia next season.

This rivalry, which was one-sided in the Aggies’ favor, began to heat up last season after Texas A&M entered Williams-Brice Stadium at 7-1, only to lose star running back Le’Veon Moss and fall 44-20 in one of the worst second-half performances of the year. The reason? LaNorris Sellers, who is by far the most physically gifted quarterback in the SEC, outside of Texas star Arch Manning.

This season, Texas A&M’s historic 31-30 comeback win over the Gamecocks saw the two sides of Sellers, who thrived in the pocket during the first half, but couldn’t re-establish himself after halftime, as South Carolina did not score a single point in the second half.

Over his last three seasons, Sellers has thrown for 5,057, 33 touchdowns and 15 interceptions, combined with 995 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground. However, new OC Kendal Briles, who served in the same role with TCU over the past two seasons, likes his quarterbacks more, but will likely need to peel pack on designed runs to keep Sellers healthy and help him further develop as a passer.
