AUSTIN (KXAN) — The San Antonio Zoo opened its new habitat for gorillas, Congo Falls, on Saturday, which features three distinct habitats, lush landscaping, dynamic water features, and enrichment zones.
KXAN Anchor Will DuPree spoke to the San Antonio Zoo VP of Marketing, Hope Roth, about what makes the exhibit unique and what visitors can expect.

“Congo Falls is a 2-acre gorilla habitat made up of very distinct and unique habitats inside. The first one is a low-land basin, and when you walk right in front of you will be at Will Smith Foundation Infinity Falls, a 30-foot waterfall,” Roth said, “Then there is a 74-foot gorilla tower, the tallest in the world. You know what they say, everything’s bigger in Texas.”
The zoo also said that the tower will allow the gorillas to have an unobstructed view of the city skyline.
During the construction of Congo Falls, the San Antonio Zoo said it made a “historical” discovery of limestone from the same quarry that supplied stone for the construction of The Alamo more than 300 years ago.
