Texas Tech defensive tackle Skylar Gill-Howard underwent surgery on Thursday for the lower-leg injury he suffered last week against Kansas, according to multiple reports.

Gill-Howard was carted off four minutes into the 42-17 win. The NIU transfer went down on the Jayhawks’ opening drive and motioned to his lower body when speaking with medical personnel.

The plan, according to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, is for Gill-Howard to potentially be back in time for the College Football Playoffs, should the Red Raiders keep up their winning ways.

Texas Tech was ranked No. 7 in the last AP Top 25 poll, and has an undefeated 6-0 record as the Red Raiders embark on the back half of the season. Texas Tech faces Arizona State on Saturday.
