1. Son of Texas A&M rabbi is one of the injured in Bondi Beach massacre

The son of a Texas A&M University rabbi is one of the people injured in the mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, that has left at least 15 people dead.

Rabbi Yossi Lazaroff, who serves as the executive director of Chabad at Texas A&M, confirmed that his son, Rabbi Leibel Lazaroff, was one of the people shot and injured in the attack in a post on X. He also said the Chabad rabbi his son was working with, Rabbi Eli Schlanger, was killed in the attack.

2. Frank Cooksey, former Austin mayor, dies at 92

Frank Cooksey, who served as Austin’s mayor from 1985 to 1988, died Monday morning. He was 92.

The confirmation came from daughter Kathryn Pew, according to the Austin American-Statesman. She said Cooksey suffered a likely fall-induced brain bleed and was removed from life support late Sunday.

3. El Paso makes list of most-searched travel destinations

According to vacation rental website HomeToGo, El Paso is one of the most-searched destinations in the country, part of a movement toward Western-oriented locations influenced by a cultural shift toward desert beauty and country music.

Kerr County Love Project aims to heal through art, create mosaic mural

Dozens and dozens of slender, football-shaped tiles carry messages of love and strength for Kerr County.

These tiles, handmade by Austin and Kerr County citizens, will come together next year to form a large mosaic mural through the Kerr County Love Project — one meant to celebrate the resilience of the community following the deadly Fourth of July floods.
