LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A first grader at Tatum Elementary in New Mexico celebrated beating cancer today with loved ones around her that she inspired.
Adalee Torrez rang the bell this afternoon at the Joe Arrington Cancer Center after completing treatment on Oct. 5.
She was diagnosed with B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in May of 2023 and quickly began treatment to fight the cancer.
Her teacher, Martha Castanon, said she is inspired by Torrez’s strength and finds her as an inspiration to others. She said she planned a class field trip for Torrez’s bell ringing but a Christmas program and the holiday break made it to where not many people could make it.
However, she does plan to have a special bell ringing for Torrez in class.
