A controversy from last month’s Texas A&M-South Carolina game is reportedly being escalated.

According to a report from The Washington Post, South Carolina running back Oscar Adaway III is pursuing legal action against the Texas Department of Public Safety trooper that was involved in an altercation with Adaway and another Gamecocks player.

The incident occurred after South Carolina wide receiver Nyck Harbor caught an 80-yard touchdown pass. After the score, Harbor jogged into the tunnel followed by a few other South Carolina players.

When the South Carolina players made their way back to the field, the state trooper walked between Harbor and running back Oscar Adaway III, making shoulder-to-shoulder contact with both. Then, the state trooper turned around and walked toward Harbor and pointed at him in what appeared to be a heated exchange.

Adaway filed a criminal complaint that accuses the trooper of assault on Dec. 12, according to his attorney, and the Brazos County District Attorney is considering moving the charges forward.

Following the incident, the Texas Department of Public Safety released the following statement on its official X account: “The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is aware of the incident that occurred today during the Texas A&M football game. The DPS Trooper involved was sent home from the game. Our Office of Inspector General (OIG) is also aware of the incident and will be further looking into the matter. No additional information will be released at this time.”

A video clip of the incident went viral on social media, evencatching the attention of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.

Adaway reportedly called the Texas A&M Police to report an assault, but the A&M Police, along with Texas DPS have declined to release the trooper’s name to this point.
