LUBBOCK, TX (Provided by UMC) – For the past 17 years, UMC employees have generously donated food bags to students at Brown Elementary School. On Thursday, December 18th, UMC delivered these items to the school, continuing a beloved tradition that brings hope and support to children in need.
UMC staff members contribute both monetary donations and food items to create the food bags, which are carefully packed with essentials like peanut butter, jelly, bread, Vienna sausage, pop-tarts, Capri-Sun, beef jerky, chips, pudding cups, fruit snacks, shelf-stable milk, cereal and other additional snack items. Each bag costs approximately $35 and provides nourishment for a child during the Winter Break. The Legal and Compliance Departments diligently pack all 169 bags for the event, and UMC Emergency Medical Services (EMS) lend a helping hand with delivering the bags to Brown Elementary.
“Food insecurity is one of the primary social determinants of health. A lack of appropriate food impacts all aspects of a person’s overall physical and mental health,” said Kristi Duske, Senior Vice-President & Chief Legal Officer. “UMC values its role in the community as a partner for those in need, and its employees prioritize service as their passion.”
UMC is committed to supporting the community by funding several events throughout the year in addition to the provision of food bags. The events include a welcome back breakfast/lunch for schoolteachers, an annual appreciation dinner for Brown Elementary, a school supply drive, food bag distribution during Christmas, and a community picnic. These events serve to strengthen UMC’s relationship with the community and demonstrate the organization’s commitment to giving back.
The tradition of distributing food bags to Brown Elementary is one that UMC holds dear and is dedicated to continuing this support as part of their unwavering commitment to service. UMC has been an official sponsor of Brown Elementary through the esteemed Partners in Education program since 2008. Over the years, UMC has supported the school in countless ways, responding to the unique needs of students and teachers alike.
