Mayor Paulette Guajardo joined AEP for a check presentation as the company donated $5,000 to the Laguna Little Miss Kickball League for facility upgrades.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette Guajardo joined AEP Texas on Tuesday for a check presentation supporting the Laguna Little Miss Kickball League, which received a $5,000 donation to help fund facility improvements.

League President Cassandra Grabowske said the money will go toward completing construction on a new concession stand, replacing a structure that had been in use for more than 35 years.
“We tore down the old concession stand, and it was time for a new one,” Grabowske said. “This donation is going to help us finish the build, inside and out.”
Grabowske, now in her second year as president, has been part of the Laguna league for more than three decades. She played in the league as a child and later returned as a coach when her daughters began playing.
“I played here growing up, and now my kids play here,” she said. “I have board members who played with me when we were kids, and we’re still playing together today.”

The league serves about 300 girls and is preparing to host its All-Star tournament beginning June 25. The event is expected to bring more than 15 leagues from across Texas to Corpus Christi.
“We’re doing a lot of improvements to get ready for our state tournament,” Grabowske said.
In addition to the AEP donation, the league recently received new field dirt from Flour Bluff High School, which donated material while renovating its baseball field. Grabowske said the dirt will be used to improve multiple kickball fields as the league prepares for the upcoming season.
Mayor Guajardo said the donation underscores the strength of community partnerships as the year comes to a close.
“As we close out the year, this donation is a wonderful reminder of the power of community,” Gaujardo said. “We’re grateful to AEP Texas for their continued partnership — which creates positive, meaningful opportunities for our young athletes.”

The Laguna fields are located in the Waldron area on Naval property, where league leaders are also seeking donations to upgrade fencing and improve field irrigation.
Grabowske said the league’s focus goes beyond athletics.
“We’re not just teaching them a sport,” she said. “We’re teaching sportsmanship, building friendships, and creating relationships that last a lifetime. We’re a family out here.”
Registration for the upcoming season is currently open and will close in February.
