The San Antonio Spurs quietly signed a 6-foot-4 former Los Angeles Lakers guard on Dec. 12.

However, just nine days later, the Spurs elected to cut ties with the 26-year-old for a specific reason.

“The Spurs have officially waived Kyle Mangas and signed Stanley Umude to a two-way contract,”The Spot Up Shot’s Paul Garcia reported on Sunday. “Roster full with 18 players again.”

Mangas, who began his professional career overseas, has spent the last two seasons in the G-League. From 2023-25, the Indiana Wesleyan product competed with the Indiana Mad Ants (now the Noblesville Boom) and the Austin Spurs.

Mangas emerged as a lights-out three-point shooting threat during his time with Noblesville, as he connected on 47.6% of his triples in 2024-25. Before the 2024-25 season commenced, though, the Warsaw, Indiana native joined the Lakers for Summer League.

While Summer League deals are non-guaranteed, there’s no question that Mangas had a chance to make a significant enough impact to earn a training camp invite and potentially an opening night roster spot.

Unfortunately, Mangas didn’t compete with Los Angeles beyond the Summer League, prompting him to return to the NBA’s minor league.

The former NABC NAIA DII Player of the Year averaged 10 points on 50% field goal shooting and 57% three-point shooting in two games with the Spurs’ G-League affiliate this season.

Perhaps Mangas will find his footing in the big leagues soon.
