A 32-year-old man was identified as the murder suspect who was shot and killed by Dallas police officers near Town East Mall on Saturday, Mesquite police said in a statement Monday.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 9000 block of Markville Drive at 10:15 a.m., where they found a woman with a gunshot wound.

The alleged shooter, Gerald Frank Martin, had already fled the scene.

The woman, who has not been publicly identified by police, was transported to a hospital, where she later died.

At about 11:45 a.m., Dallas and Mesquite officers located Martin in a vehicle near the 18500 block of North LBJ Freeway and decided to conduct a felony traffic stop.

According to a previous statement from Mesquite police, Martin exited the vehicle while armed, and shots were fired. He died at the scene from his injuries, according to police statements.

No officers were hurt during the incident.

The Mesquite Police Department will investigate the officer-involved shooting, and the Dallas County district attorney’s office will also conduct an investigation.
