Protesters in North Texas and across the country are taking part in “No Kings” demonstrations Saturday.

DALLAS — Protesters are gathering in cities across North Texas and across the country for “No Kings” demonstrations Saturday to express frustration about the direction of the country under President Donald Trump.

Thousands, including an estimated 10,000 in Dallas alone, took part in “No Kings” demonstrations in North Texas earlier this summer, which were organized to coincide with a military parade in Washington for the 250th anniversary of the Army, and President Donald Trump’s birthday. Thousands more took part in events in cities across the country.

Now, on Oct. 18, more than 2,600 rallies are planned across the country for the second “No Kings” Day of Defiance, including in several North Texas cities, with attendance expected to surpass that of the events over the summer.

Saturday’s protests are the third mass demonstration since Trump returned to the White House, and comes amid a government shutdown.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott directed the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Texas National Guard to Austin ahead of demonstrations there Saturday to “deter criminal mischief and work with local law enforcement to arrest anyone engaging in acts of violence or damaging property.”

In North Texas, rallies are planned in about a dozen North Texas cities, including Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Frisco, Plano, Denton and more.

Here’s what we’re seeing across North Texas.

Frisco

In Frisco, people started gathering off Old Newman Road starting at 9 a.m. carrying signs saying “No Kings” and similar messaging. Some passersby could be heard honking and some also drove by carrying Trump flags. As of Saturday morning, the gathering remained peaceful.Â
