The body of a male was found in Houston’s Buffalo Bayou on Dec. 24, authorities said<\/p>\n
The grim discovery comes after two bodies were discovered in two separate bayous on Dec. 22<\/p>\n
In total, there have been 34 bodies found in Houston bayous this year<\/p>\n
Houston authorities say another body has been found in a local bayou \u2014 the third in area waters this week and the 34th this year.<\/p>\n
In an X post shared on the afternoon of\u00a0 Wednesday, Dec. 24, the Houston Police Department <\/a>said that authorities including a dive team responded to reports of a body in Buffalo Bayou.<\/p>\n The City of Houston issued a news release<\/a> that same day stating that a pedestrian first noticed the body in the bayou.<\/p>\n \u201cThe HPD Dive Team responded to the scene and recovered the body from the water,\u201d states the news release.<\/p>\n Authorities said that police are awaiting the autopsy results on the male victim, whose identity and cause of death are being determined by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.<\/p>\n The latest death follows the discovery of two bodies on the morning of Monday, Dec. 22, in two separate bayous, Houston Public Media<\/a>, CBS affiliate KHOU<\/a> and NBC affiliate KPRC<\/a> reported. One body was in Buffalo Bayou, while another was discovered near Brays Bayou.<\/p>\n The Harris County medical examiner’s office is also reportedly handling the autopsies of those two victims to determine their identities, per Houston Public Media<\/p>\n In total, there have been 34 bodies discovered in Houston-area bayous this year, the local media outlets reported.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s incredibly sad,\u201d Jesse Bellow, a nearby resident,\u00a0told KPRC in response to Wednesday\u2019s discovery of the body in the Buffalo Bayou. \u201cThere\u2019s the sensationalized side of a serial killer which people purport as a possibility, but it could also be the incompetence of our leaders in taking care of the lowest members of our society who are still human and deserve respect.”<\/p>\n Per a Dec. 10 investigative report by the Houston Chronicle<\/a>, there have been more than 200 bodies found along the city\u2019s bayous since 2017, adding that 2024 and 2025 have been the deadliest years on record.
