Seniors Shriya Viswanathan and Saura Agarwal were recently awarded a patent for a personalized UV monitoring application. <\/p>\n

Plano ISD<\/a> students Shriya Viswanathan and Saura Agarwal were recently awarded a patent<\/a>,\u00a0UV Exposure Monitoring and Alerts Application,\u00a0for a project they began at Renner Middle School\u2019s science fair when they were students there.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir dedication, creativity and leadership reflect the best of our district community, and we look forward to seeing how they continue to grow as innovators and problem-solvers,\u201d a press release from Plano ISD stated<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Both students are seniors, with Viswanthan at Plano Senior High School and Agarwal at Plano East Senior High. Their patent features a personalized system that monitors a user\u2019s UV exposure in real time. According to a news release, the system \u201ccombines a mobile app, UV sensors and user-specific factors, such as skin tone, family history of skin cancer and sunscreen SPF, to calculate a safe exposure limit and notify the user before harm occurs.\u201d<\/p>\n
