<\/p>\nCorpus Christi city officials are preparing warming centers at local libraries as temperatures take a swift dive with a strong cold front.<\/p>\n
The warming centers aren\u2019t shelters, but operate as spaces for residents to seek respite from cold during daytime hours.<\/p>\n
Four libraries will open as warming centers from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 30 and Dec. 31, according to a news release issued by the city Dec. 29.<\/p>\n

The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority will provide rides to and from the warming centers at no cost, it states.<\/p>\n
The city is, at present, closed for holiday break.<\/p>\n
However, \u201cdedicated staff will be on-site to operate these centers and ensure that everyone has access to shelter and support,\u201d wrote City Manager Peter Zanoni in the news release.<\/p>\n
Here are the warming center locations:<\/p>\n
La Retama Central Library, 805 Comanche St.<\/p>\n
Ethel Eyerly Senior Center, 654 Graham Road<\/p>\n
Ben F. McDonald Library, 4044 Greenwood Drive<\/p>\n
Owen R. Hopkins Library, 3202 Mckinzie Road<\/p>\n
There are at least three nonprofit shelters in the city that are listed in the news release:<\/p>\n
Good Samaritan Ministries, 902 Nueces Bay Blvd.<\/p>\n
The Salvation Army, 1804 Buford St.<\/p>\n
Mother Teresa Day Shelter, 513 Sam Rankin Ave.<\/p>\n
Temperatures are expected to reach highs of about 56 degrees on Dec. 30 and about 66 degrees on Dec. 31, according to a forecast by the local office of the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n
Overnight lows are expected to be about 46 degrees the night of Dec. 29, about 44 degrees the night of Dec. 30, and about 52 degrees the night of Dec. 31, the NWS forecast shows.<\/p>\n
