As New Year’s Eve approaches, the Corpus Christi fire and police departments are warning residents not to use fireworks within city limits, including beaches.<\/p>\n
Fireworks are strictly prohibited in Corpus Christi and could result in fines of up to $2,000 for each opened package of fireworks.<\/p>\n
There were 11 reported fireworks-related deaths and about 14,700 people were injured by fireworks across the country in 2024, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission<\/a>. Sparklers, handheld fireworks, caused nearly 1,700 injuries treated in emergency rooms in 2024.<\/p>\n The most frequently injured body parts were hands, fingers, head, face and ears. Burns were the most common injury, making up 37% of all emergency room visits.<\/p>\n But fireworks aren’t only a danger for people; the loud noises can be distressing for pets. The din can make the animals anxious, causing them to act unruly or attempt to escape.<\/p>\n People who witness illegal fireworks activity may report it by calling 361-886-COPS (2677).
