Where did Jones think the Cowboys missed on defensive personnel?<\/p>\n
Across the board, the Cowboys\u2019 defense fell short of expectations across the board. Jones was asked if there was an area that he felt Dallas missed on from a personnel standpoint.<\/p>\n
\u201cProbably the one that I think was the most impactful is that we had a high expectation in our secondary, and I thought we would be good at all phases of it\u2026\u201d Jones said. \u201cThe secondary really had issues regarding personnel, time on the field, time at practice. We weren\u2019t ambitious, we knew some of those guys would be getting back [from injury]\u2026 I would say that\u2019s the area.\u201d<\/p>\n
There was a lot of movement in and out of roles in the secondary this year due to injuries, players returning from major injuries, etc., which was a trend from last season as well. In 2026, the Cowboys certainly hope they can get some more continuity.<\/p>\n
Dak will start Sunday, but how much will he play?<\/p>\n
Jones reiterated that Dak Prescott will start in Week 18 for the Cowboys against the Giants. That said, he may not be the one to finish the game.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow we use Dak, where we use him, those kinds of things, let\u2019s just make that a part of the game plan that we won\u2019t talk about.\u201d Jones said.<\/p>\n
That means Joe Milton may have a good chance to get the most reps he\u2019s had during his time with the Cowboys, as the previous three games he\u2019s played in this season have only come later when games are already out of hand.<\/p>\n
Analyzing the defensive breakdowns, and the future<\/p>\n
One way or another, the Cowboys know that they\u2019re going to need change defensively in 2026 and beyond. What that looks like will be discussed as one of the principle points of emphasis this offseason.<\/p>\n
\u201cMake no mistake about it, everybody had their finger in what we did out there defensively. Everybody,\u201d Jones said. \u201cAnd so it\u2019s not just a one man blame at all, and I say that because therein lies what you got to sit down and figure out if what, if anything, you want to change. We\u2019ll get to that pronto\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is rare when you have one coach or one player that is the cause or the solution to the problem. And that\u2019s the main thing I\u2019d like to emphasize. We\u2019re trying to solve the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n
