The west then southwest breeze will remain light, around 10 mph (give or take). Temperatures will peak ten or more degrees above average for the final day of the year. Though chilly, it will be pleasant, dry, and with a light wind. Doesn\u2019t get much better in these here parts for ringing in a new year. Can gusty winds be far? <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Winds will ramp up tomorrow, becoming quite gusty, and will continue into Friday. Wind speeds are expected to increase to around 20 to 30 mph tomorrow, with gusts as high as 50 mph. A few sprinkles are even possible, but there will not be any measurable precipitation. It will be quite warm for the first day of the year. Highs will range from the upper 60s to the mid-70s. That will keep the KCBD\/FOX34 viewing weather seasonably warm, dry, with typical West Texas breezes returning by early next week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">On This Date<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">On this date in 1992, freezing rain moved across the South Plains during the evening. The ice was over 1\/2 inch thick on autos and other exposed surfaces. The ice was a contributing factor to several traffic accidents. The weight of the ice snapped tree branches and power lines in Lubbock, Hale Center, and Littlefield.
