Police say the traffic stop was initiated after Avila committed a traffic violation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">During the traffic stop, police say they detected an odor of marijuana, which led to the search of the vehicle Avila was driving.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The search resulted in the seizure of illegal narcotics and a 9 mm CZ handgun, police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Avila was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility for possession of a controlled substance (THC), possession of marijuana less than two ounces, and unlawful carrying of a weapon under a total bond of $1,100.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
