Auditions have been announced for\u00a0La Reina Que Quiero Ser, a powerful new El Paso\u2013based short film inspired by the legacy of Selena Quintanilla-P\u00e9rez<\/a>. Casting will take place on\u00a0Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.\u00a0on the\u00a0center courtyard stage at The Outlet Shoppes at El Paso.<\/p>\n

Set in\u00a0March 1995,\u00a0La Reina Que Quiero Ser\u00a0tells the story of\u00a0Miguel, a young boy who finds the courage to embrace his true self following the death of his idol, Selena. Guided by his mother\u2019s unconditional love and the healing power of music, Miguel\u2019s journey reflects the profound and lasting impact Selena continues to have on generations of fans.<\/p>\n

Film producers are currently searching for someone to portray\u00a0\u201cLa Reina del Tex-Mex,\u201d Selena Quintanilla-P\u00e9rez, in the short film. The audition is\u00a0open to performers ages 18\u201330, though producers strongly encourage\u00a0anyone who feels they are right for the role to audition, regardless of age. Applicants must be\u00a0no younger than 16 years old, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.<\/p>\n

Auditions will be\u00a0first-come, first-served, and participants are encouraged to arrive early to secure a spot. Those auditioning should come dressed in their\u00a0best Selena-inspired attire\u00a0and be prepared to\u00a0read a scene from the script, which will be provided on site. In addition, performers will be asked to\u00a0lip-sync for 60 seconds to a Selena song of their choice, bringing the Queen of Tejano\u2019s spirit and stage presence to life.<\/p>\n

The role of Selena is a\u00a0paid, non-union opportunity\u00a0for the actor cast in the film.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrab your purple sequins and your red lipstick\u2026 we\u2019ll see you at the Shoppes!\u201d the casting call reads, adding a fitting nod to Selena\u2019s enduring legacy:\u00a0\u201cAfter all, anything for Selenas!\u201d<\/p>\n
