class=\"\">41-27 Citrus Bowl win<\/a> over No. 18 Michigan: a quarterback who made all sorts of plays, a new-look defense that produced three turnovers, a 24-7 advantage over the final two quarters and a 51-yard field goal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-channels-pixel.ex.co\/events\/0012000001fxZm9AAE?integrationType=DEFAULT&amp;template=design%2Farticle%2Fplatypus_two_column.tpl\" alt=\"\" class=\"x1px y1px vh abs\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Texas quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/sports\/college\/longhorns\/football\/article\/arch-manning-stats-texas-vs-michigan-citrus-bowl-21267019.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Arch Manning<\/a> continued his late-season rise, Christian Clark eased the sting of opted-out running backs Quintrevion Wisner and CJ Baxter, sophomore linebacker Ty&#8217;Anthony Smith did likewise for the linebackers unit and the Longhorns (10-3) won a 10th game for the third straight season for the first time since Mack Brown ruled the sideline in 2009.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>All in all, while it wasn&#8217;t a College Football Playoff game, it was a bowl win and the offseason should at Arch Manning certainly didn\u2019t waste any time after a jaw-dropping performance that stirred echoes of Vince Young\u2019s big game against Michigan in the 2005 Rose Bowl. And we all remember what happened that next season, right? Manning accounted for 376 yards of offense and four total touchdowns, including a 23-yard touchdown run, a 60-yard touchdown run and a 60-yard touchdown pass. Longhorns fans likely have one more season of Arch madness; buckle up and enjoy it.<\/p>\n<p>Defensive opt-outs didn&#8217;t affect Texas<\/p>\n<p>Texas had six defensive starters skip the game while preparing for the NFL draft and another in linebacker Liona Lefau who will enter the transfer portal. But the kids are all right, as they say. Sophomore linebacker Ty\u2019Anthony Smith had two interceptions and a team-high nine tackles, freshman Kade Phillips had eight solo tackles and a pass breakup, and freshman Bo Barnes tallied his first career sack. That put the Longhorns under threat of losing the turnover battle for just the second time this season. But some of Texas\u2019 young guns came up big in the second half. Redshirt freshman defensive back Wardell Mack intercepted Michigan QB Bryce Underwood in the red zone, then Smith came down with two picks in the span of three defensive snaps to help close out the game.<\/p>\n<p>Christian Clark made the most of his chance<\/p>\n<p>The three players who began the season atop the depth chart for Texas football at running back all sat out Wednesday\u2019s game, preparing to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Friday. But Christian Clark still delivered one of the most efficient rushing performances of the year for the Longhorns, perhaps auditioning for a more significant role in 2026. The redshirt freshman carried the ball 20 times for 105 yards and a touchdown, giving Texas only its second 100-yard showing by a running back this season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Texcetera<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Texas&#8217; leading passer was Arch Manning (21 of 34 for 221 yards, 2 TDs). He played the whole way; Texas&#8217; leading rusher was also Manning (9-155-2). Clark averaged 5.3 yards a carry. Texas&#8217; leading receiver was Ryan Wingo (4-64).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Texas&#8217; last five non-CFP bowl results:\u00a02018 Sugar Bowl, def. Georgia 28-21; 2019 Alamo, def. Utah 38-10; 2020 Alamo, def. Colorado 55-23; 2022 Alamo, lost to Washington 27-20; 2025 Citrus, def. Michigan xxx.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Roster depth played a role Wednesday. Texas\u2019 and Michigan\u2019s last five signing class national rankings, per 247Sports\u2019 composite, 2021-25: Texas \u2014 15th, 5th, 3rd, 6th, 1st; Michigan \u2014 13th, 9th, 17th, 16th, 6th.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Next up for Texas: the offseason<\/p>\n<p>Where will the Longhorns end up in the final national rankings?
