Not only did we break this record, but we also shattered it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Normal&#8221; can be a little difficult to quantify in a place with such unpredictable weather; however, we can say that historically, the average highs during Lubbock winters are between 50 and 60 degrees. The 80s are obviously way higher than that average.<\/p>\n<p>What It Means for Lubbock Residents<\/p>\n<p>The most immediate concern of warmer winter weather is that it can cause fire conditions in our area. So please exercise extra caution with anything flammable outdoors. Depending on how much your electricity costs vs. your gas (if you have a gas heater), it may make this season a little more expensive.<\/p>\n<p>Also, you might just miss your sweaters and heavy coats- mine have been collecting dust in my closet.<\/p>\n<p>While Lubbock is experiencing a noticeably warmer winter than many residents are used to, weather experts note that conditions can still change as the season continues. West Texas winters are known for their variability, and colder temperatures or late-season cold fronts remain possible.
