CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 Quasars Arcade<\/a>, a popular retro-arcade, announced this week that its Everhart location will permanently close effective Jan. 11, citing redevelopment plans for the Sun Plaza Shopping Center.<\/p>\n

\u201cDue to the landlord\u2019s decision to demolish the shopping center, we will be closing our Everhart location,\u201d the business said in a statement. \u201cThis closure is related solely to the redevelopment of the property.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate everyone who has supported us at this location, and we will share updates on future location plans as they become available,\u201d the business said in a statement on their Facebook page<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The closure will displace Quasars Arcade and other tenants currently operating at Sun Plaza, including Sherwin-Williams Paint Store, Trophyland, Koi Sushi & Hibachi, and a State Farm agency. Details about the redevelopment project, including what may replace the existing shopping center, have not yet been publicly released.<\/p>\n

Sun Plaza Shopping Center is a multi-tenant retail strip that has housed small, locally owned businesses for decades. The property sits along Everhart Rd. and Corona Dr.<\/p>\n

Sun Plaza\u2019s pending demolition marks another major shift along the Everhart Road corridor, where older strip centers have increasingly been targeted for redevelopment as land values continue to rise.<\/p>\n
