Dry weather and steady winds caused a surge in fireworks emergencies over the New Year\u2019s holiday, Bexar County officials said Friday.<\/p>\n

Indeed, the county recorded a 31% increase in fireworks-related incidents compared to last year\u2019s holiday.<\/p>\n

Between Dec. 28 and New Year\u2019s Day, emergency crews responded to 113 triggered by fireworks, according to the county. Of those, 42 stemmed from firework-related blazes, including 13 grass fires, nine trash-bin fires, eight structure fires and three vehicle fires.<\/p>\n

Officials estimate fireworks caused $475,000 in property damage and loss over the New Year\u2019s holiday in Bexar County.<\/p>\n

The significant reported damage comes despite Bexar County banning both ground rockets with sticks and missiles with fins.<\/p>\n
