<\/p>\n AUSTIN, Texas (January 2, 2026) \u2013 Lubbock Christian opened the new year the way it closed the old one \u2014 with another Lone Star Conference win\u2026 Freshman Meg Meekins<\/a> posted her first career double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and the Lady Chaps used a dominant defensive stretch to pull away for a 70\u201354 win over St. Edward’s Friday at the Recreation and Athletic Center. \nLCU (13\u20131, 5\u20130 LSC) has now won six of seven road games this season and 11 straight in the series against the Hilltoppers.

\nThe Lady Chaps seized control with a smothering first-half effort. After SEU opened 3-of-6 from the field, the Hilltoppers went more than 16 minutes without a field goal, missing 23 consecutive shots spanning the end of the first quarter through the opening possession of the third. During that stretch, LCU outscored SEU 24\u20138 \u2014 with all eight Hilltopper points coming at the free-throw line \u2014 and built a double-digit lead it carried the rest of the way. LCU shot 51 percent from the field and outscored SEU 40\u201318 in the paint.

\nMeekins went 7-of-10 from the floor and added five assists, becoming just the fifth LCU player in the program’s NCAA era to post a line of 18-plus points, 12-plus rebounds and five-plus assists. Kennedy Chappell<\/a> added 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting, and Martie McCoy<\/a> scored 10 with three assists and no turnovers. The Lady Chaps also received seven points from Raegan Lee<\/a> and five from Taylor Allen<\/a>, while winning the rebounding battle 33\u201332.

\nSt. Edward’s (8\u20134, 2\u20132) was led by Mikah Chapman’s 15 points and five rebounds, while Kendall Beck finished with eight points and eight boards. Kiana Bennett and Suni Davis each scored 11, with Davis going 6-of-8 at the foul line. The Hilltoppers shot just 29.6 percent from the field, including 0-for-14 in the second quarter, but closed the gap slightly with a 21-point fourth period.

\nLCU’s 26-point third quarter matched its highest-scoring frame of the season and pushed the lead to as many as 23. The Lady Chaps finished 5-of-16 from beyond the arc \u2014 a contrast from their program-record 15 threes in their previous outing \u2014 but compensated by converting 21 of 35 attempts inside the arc.<\/p>\n
\nThe game began with Kennedy Chappell<\/a> scoring a layup for the Chaps, assisted by Tia Johnson<\/a>, setting the tone for the visitors. Mikah Chapman quickly answered for the Hilltoppers with a jumper, leveling the score at 2-2. The Lady Chaps managed to maintain control, with Martie McCoy<\/a> contributing a layup at 6:49, aided by Meg Meekins<\/a>, to pull ahead. Despite Kendall Beck’s efforts from the free-throw line for SEU, the Chaparrals’ consistent scoring, including two free throws by Meekins with 45 seconds remaining, secured a 13-9 lead at the end of the quarter. Tia Johnson<\/a> led LCU with four points in the opening quarter. The teams combined for seven field goals, as LCU was 4-of-10 and SEU was 3-of-15 in the frame.

\nThe Lady Chaps outscored the Hilltoppers 17-7 in the second quarter, widening their lead. Kyndle Cunningham<\/a> initiated the scoring with a layup at the 9:28 mark, assisted by Raegan Lee<\/a>. A key moment came at 8:25 when Lee drained a three-pointer (LCU’s first of the game after the team opened the game 0-of-5 from long distance), with Meekins providing the assist, pushing the Lady Chaps ahead 18-10. Meekins added a layup at 8:01 to further extend their advantage. SEU struggled to close the gap, going 0-for-14 from the field in the period, as they scored seven points in the period (all from the line). Meekins and Cunningham each had four points in the quarter, as LCU received scoring from six different players in the quarter. LCU led 30-16 at the half, with an 18-4 scoring advantage in the half. They held SEU to 10.3% (3\/29) shooting from the field in the half. Meekins led LCU at the break with six points.

\nThe Lady Chaparrals gained momentum in the third quarter with a strong offensive performance, outscoring the Hilltoppers 26-17. Tia Johnson<\/a> contributed significantly with a three-pointer at the 6:57 mark, assisted by McCoy, extending their lead to 37-20. Meekins added to the offensive surge, knocking down a three-pointer with 2:23 left to push the score to 51-30. The quarter concluded with Maddie Moyers<\/a> sinking a three-pointer, assisted by Meekins, to finalize the score at 56-33 (largest lead of the game). Meekins led LCU with 8 points in the frame.

\nIn the fourth quarter, the Lady Chaps secured their lead with a series of key plays. Kendall Beck opened scoring for SEU with a jumper, assisted by Davis, at 9:37. The Chaparrals responded with Moyers converting a layup, assisted by Deja Johnson<\/a>, at 8:51. Meekins contributed significantly for the Lady Chaps, scoring a jumper at 6:17 and following up with a layup at 5:43, assisted by Tia Johnson<\/a>. Despite a late three-pointer by Kiara Council for the Hilltoppers, Lubbock Christian maintained their advantage, with Ally Ihler<\/a> sealing the game with a layup with under 40 seconds remaining, finalizing the score at 70-54 in favor of the Lady Chaps.

\nIt was a different half of play than the first, as both teams shot over 50% from the field in the half (LCU was 57.7%, 15\/26, while SEU shot 52%, 13\/25). Meekins tallied 12 of her 18 points in the second half off 5-of-7 shooting from the field in the half (also had 7 rebounds in the half).

\n\u00bb St. Edward’s started the night 3-for-6 from the field, with its last first-quarter field goal coming at the 5:15 mark, but then went without a field goal for the remainder of the half, missing 23 straight shots and finishing the second quarter 0-for-14 from the floor. The drought stretched into the third quarter until the Hilltoppers connected on their first attempt of the second half, snapping a 16-minute, 13-second stretch without a field goal. During that span, LCU outscored SEU 24\u20138, with all eight Hilltopper points coming at the free-throw line, and the Lady Chaps used a 22\u20134 run as the centerpiece of the surge.

\n\u00bb Freshman Meg Meekins<\/a> turned in a solid performance, finishing with 18 points (12 in the second half), a career-high 12 rebounds and 5 assists (matched a career high) while shooting 7-for-10 from the field (70%) and 2-for-2 at the line. The double-double was the first of her career, and she became just the fifth player in LCU’s NCAA era to record a stat line of 18-plus points, 12-plus rebounds and 5-plus assists\u2014joining Nicole Hampton and Grace Foster<\/a> (who each accomplished the feat twice) as the only players to do so. Meg Meekins<\/a> opened her scoring in the second half with a three-pointer, extending her streak to three-pointer tallied in all 14 games this season. The streak of 14 consecutive games with at least one three-pointer is tied for the fifth-most in LCU’s NCAA scheduling era (started 2013-14 season). Meekins becomes the sixth player to achieve the mark (in the era), and the record in the era is 27 by Ashton Duncan during the 2019-20 season.

\n\u00bb LCU was coming off a program record (for a road game) 15 three-pointers in their prior game (at Metropolitan State of Denver on Dec. 18), but they would not have the same success Friday. Raegan Lee<\/a> hit their first three-pointer after LCU opened the game 0-of-5 from long-range and it was one of a season-low five three-pointers by the Lady Chaps. They finished 5-of-16 (31.3%) from the perimeter.

\n\u00bb The Lady Chaps edged SEU with a 33-32 rebound advantage. LCU has out-rebounded their opponents in a season-best stretch of four consecutive games.

\n\u00bb Kennedy Chappell<\/a> had 12 points off 4-of-8 shooting from the field. The performance marked the 23rd double-figure scoring game of her LCU career, as she has double figures in points in 13 of 14 games this season and in her last nine consecutive games.

\n\u00bb Martie McCoy<\/a> had a contributing statistical night as well, posting 10 points, 3 assists (no turnovers) and a +16 plus\/minus (second of the squad). McCoy’s 10 points marked her seventh game of double figures this season (10th in her LCU career).

\n\u00bb LCU was 26-of-51 (51%) from the field, going 21-of-35 (60%) inside the perimeter (outscored SEU 40-18 in the paint). It is the third time this season and second time LCU has shot at least 50% from the field. It is also the second time LCU has shot at least 50% and held their opponent under 30% (SEU was 16-of-54, 29.6%) from the field in the same game this season.

\n\u00bb LCU produced 26 points in the third quarter, matching their largest offensive output for a single quarter this season (had 26 in the third quarter on Nov. 2, 2025 against Missouri Western). The marks put LCU with a 276-183 scoring advantage on the season in third quarters alone. That is a scoring average of 19.7 points per third quarter (holding opponents to an average of 13.1 points in the quarter). The 276 points are the most for a single quarter (of the four quarters) this season, and the 183 points allowed is places the third quarter as their second-best defensive quarter. \u00a0

\n\u00bb The Lady Chaps improved to 20-6 all-time against the Hilltoppers, as LCU won their 11th straight meeting against SEU. LCU also improved to 8-5 all-time against SEU in Austin, winning their fourth straight head-to-head meeting in Austin.

\n\u00bb Playing the fifth game of a seven-game road swing, LCU improved to 6\u20131 in road contests this season (second straight road win and they are 4-1 on the current seven-game road trip).
