<\/p>\n ARLINGTON, Texas \u2013 The UT Arlington women’s basketball team’s (6-9, 0-3 WAC) first half struggles put them into a hole to deep to climb out of against Southern Utah (10-4, 2-0 WAC), falling 58-55 to the Thunderbirds inside the College Park Center on Saturday afternoon.

\nThe 26-point performance from the bench was not enough to overcome a slow start.
\n\u00a0
\nKira Reynolds<\/a> led the Lady Mavs with nine points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Laura Bello<\/a> tacked on eight points and eight rebounds and Kali Haizlip<\/a> chipped in as well with 10 points.
\n\u00a0
\nUTA shared the ball well in Saturday’s game, racking up 17 assists on 21 made field goals. Bello’s three assists paced the Mavericks and Erin Sellers<\/a> also chipped in with three assists of her own.

\nThe UTA defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday’s game, forcing 20 Southern Utah turnovers. Those takeaways turned into eight points on the offensive end of the floor. Jeanne Rodriguez<\/a> and Erin Sellers<\/a> led the way for the Lady Mavs with three steals apiece.

\nGAME FLOW
\nUTA struggled out of the gate, falling behind 20-9 at the end of the first quarter.
\n\u00a0
\nThe Lady Mavs fought back in the second period, narrowing the deficit to 29-22 by the time halftime rolled around.
\n\u00a0
\nSouthern Utah continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 32-22 advantage before UTA went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Kira Reynolds<\/a>, to trim its deficit to 32-28 with 6:31 to go in the third. The Lady Mavs continued to reduce the Southern Utah lead, shrinking it to 44-43 by the end of the third quarter. UTA’s bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled 10 of the team’s 21 third-quarter points.

\nThe Lady Mavs could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 58-55. UTA took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its 12 points in the paint.

\n\tThe Lady Mavs held the Thunderbirds to only 35.5-percent shooting from the field.
\n\tUTA shared the ball well, recording an assist on 81-percent of made field goals.
\n\tThe UTA bench came alive by scoring 26 points to its scoring output.
\n\tThe Lady Mavs’ defense forced 20 turnovers.
\n\tThe Lady Mavs were active in affecting shots on the defensive end, tallying six blocks as a team.
\n\tKali Haizlip<\/a> led the Lady Mavs with 10 points.
\n\tUTA got a team-high nine rebounds from Kira Reynolds<\/a>.
\n\tThe Lady Mavs dropped their first ever game to the Thunderbirds, are now 7-1 all-time against Southern Utah.
\n\tUTA held Southern Utah to 25-percent from downtown, the 12th time this season the Lady Mavs have held opponent s to under 30-percent.
