This Nov. 4 election carries big implications for the San Antonio Spurs\u2019 proposed $1.3 billion arena, as well as school funding measures and Texas constitutional amendments.<\/p>\n
Early voting starts Monday, Oct. 20 and runs though Oct. 31.<\/p>\n
The voter registration deadline for this election was Oct. 6. All applications submitted by the deadline have been processed<\/a> by the county . <\/p>\n Check your voter registration status here<\/a>.<\/p>\n When are polls open?<\/p>\n Polls are open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. this week. On Saturday, Oct. 25 they\u2019ll be open longer, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 26, they\u2019ll be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.<\/p>\n During the second week of early voting, Oct. 27 through Oct. 31, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.<\/p>\n Choose from any of these early voting locations<\/a>, or find one near you on the Elections Department\u2019s interactive map<\/a>. The Elections Department on S. Frio Street is only open on weekdays.<\/p>\n The last day to request a mail ballot<\/a> is Oct. 24.<\/p>\n Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 4, with a much longer list of polling sites<\/a> open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.<\/p>\n What\u2019s on the ballot?<\/p>\n All Bexar County voters will have Props A and B<\/a> on their ballots, asking to increase the county\u2019s hotel tax from 1.75% to 2% starting as soon as 2026, and extend an existing rental car tax. <\/p>\n If approved, the county would collect hundreds of millions of dollars over the next 30 years, and use it to help fund a new downtown Spurs arena, plus renovations to make the team\u2019s existing East Side home into a year-round rodeo district.<\/p>\n Proposition A would designate $191.8 million toward the rodeo plan, including repairs to the Frost Bank Center and Freeman Coliseum. <\/p>\n Proposition B would put $311 million \u2014 about a quarter of the total cost \u2014toward the Spurs arena. If approved, Prop B would also greenlight the city of San Antonio\u2019s $489 million investment<\/a> in the arena, which doesn\u2019t require a public vote. (Read more about the complicated public funding structure here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n School revenue: Judson ISD<\/a>, East Central ISD<\/a> and Schertz-Cibolo ISD<\/a> are all seeking tax increases, while North East ISD<\/a> is holding a bond election. Schertz is also voting on\u00a0a proposal involving land annexation<\/a>\u00a0near Randolph Air Force Base.<\/p>\n Texas constitutional amendments: Many of the state\u2019s 17\u00a0proposed constitutional amendments<\/a>\u00a0involve tax cuts for homeowners, veterans, people who are disabled, and people who earned money from investments or inheritance.<\/p>\n Others make political statements, like elevating parents\u2019 rights.
