San Antonio-born actor Ricardo Chavira, who graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word before his television career took off, is headed to the Broadway stage this year.<\/p>\n
Chavira has joined the\u00a0cast of the upcoming world premiere Broadway production of David Lindsay-Abaire’s “The Balusters,” entertainment industry news website\u00a0Deadline reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n The play is described as “a raucous, wild ride through a small community with big feelings,” according to Deadline, and centers on a “neighbor-versus-neighbor battle royale.” The production also stars Tony Award winner Ren\u00e9e Elise Goldsberry (“Hamilton”) and Emmy Award winner Richard Thomas, of “The Waltons” fame. The play’s opening night is set for April 21.<\/p>\n ALSO READ: Downtown San Antonio to get new mega-sized sculpture at Hemisfair<\/a><\/p>\n Chavira, best known for his role as Carlos Solis opposite Eva\u00a0Longoria in the popular ABC series “Desperate Housewives,” has performed on stage<\/a> over the years, including in London’s West End and as part of several off-Broadway and regional theater productions.<\/p>\n His more recent roles\u00a0include<\/a> guest spots on NBC’s “Chicago\u00a0P.D.” and ABC’s “Will Trent.” He also played Tejano superstar Selena’s father in Netflix’s “Selena: The Series,” and had recurring roles in ABC’s “Scandal” and the\u00a0CW’s “Jane the Virgin.” Last year, he appeared in the streaming detective series\u00a0“Ballard,” a spin-off of the long-running Prime Video original drama “Bosch.”<\/p>\n ALSO READ: 99-cent enchiladas kick off the new year at this San Antonio chain<\/a><\/p>\n Chavira, 54, grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Lee High School<\/a> in North East Independent School District before attending UIW.
