EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) – Demonstrators gathered in the Borderland on Saturday, Oct. 18, for the second \u201cNo Kings Protest,\u201d part of a national movement organizers say is \u201cstanding up against authoritarianism\u201d under the Trump administration.<\/p>\n
The event drew a large crowd of residents who voiced political concerns through chants and signs, calling for unity and civic action. Among those in attendance was U.S. Representative Veronica Escobar, who shared images from the rally on her social media, saying, “The power of the people is stronger than their hate”.<\/p>\n
Organizers said the demonstration aimed to highlight community solidarity and encourage participation in upcoming elections.<\/p>\n
We spoke with one man asking, “Why do you feel like it’s so important to have these types of events around the country”?<\/p>\n
He responded; <\/p>\n
“In moments of authoritarianism or fascism, when our freedom of speech is being threatened, we have to use it as a way to fight back, and it’s a beautiful way to demonstrate that this is still America, we still have our First Amendment right for free speech and we are going to come together to denounce the injustices and the illegal actions of Donald Trump”.<\/p>\n
The \u201cNo Kings\u201d movement has hosted similar rallies in cities across the country since its inception, focusing on promoting civic values and accountability in government.<\/p>\n
