{"id":111898,"date":"2026-01-05T22:48:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T22:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/111898\/"},"modified":"2026-01-05T22:48:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T22:48:08","slug":"dallas-police-solve-missing-persons-case-after-52-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/111898\/","title":{"rendered":"Dallas police solve missing persons case after 52 years"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">DALLAS &#8211; A Dallas family finally has closure after a decades-old missing persons case was solved.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">The Dallas Police Department said that at the end of 2025, it finally had a breakthrough after 52 years.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">A new lead sparked movement in the cold case, and a veteran Dallas detective was able to connect two seemingly separate incidents.<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/7ah3-dpd-solves-1973-missing-person-case_00.00.01.18.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-v-0dea8073=\"\"\/>   <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KDFW\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">The backstory:<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">Family members reported 16-year-old Norman Prater missing on Jan. 14, 1973.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">The teenager was last seen in East Dallas walking with friends. But he never made it home.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">Six months after Prater\u2019s disappearance in July of 1973, an unidentified white male was killed in a hit-and-run in Rock Port, Texas, near Corpus Christi.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">Despite police and local news outlets pleading for public assistance, the body was never identified.<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/s-peyton-dpd-solve-1973-missing-persons-case-4p_00.00.36.00.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-v-0dea8073=\"\"\/>  <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KDFW\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">What&#8217;s new:<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">At the end of 2025, the Aransas County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office found a new photo of the unidentified body and passed it on to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">That new photo made its way to Dallas Detective Ryan Dalby\u2019s desk. He, along with a forensic analyst with the Texas Rangers, agreed it was highly likely that this newly obtained photo was of Prater.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">Prater\u2019s older brother in Lewisville was contacted and shown the photo. He also made a positive identification.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">With no DNA evidence or fingerprints to compare, that new photo was crucial in closing the case after 52 years.<\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KDFW\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">What they&#8217;re saying:<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">&#8220;He just looked at me and goes, \u2018That scar right there on the lip. That\u2019s where he got bit by a dog. That scar on the eyebrow, that is where he got into a fight. That is my brother. We can close the case now,\u2019&#8221; said Det. Dalby. &#8220;To bring closure to a family member who has been waiting 52 years, I really can\u2019t describe how I feel.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KDFW\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">What we don&#8217;t know:<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">Det. Dalby still doesn\u2019t know how or why Prater was near Corpus Christi. He suspects the teenager was hitchhiking in the early 70s.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6c8e215c=\"\">And as for the hit-and-run, that investigation remains unsolved.
