AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 A Caldwell County deputy was fatally shot while working an off-duty security job at an Austin nightclub early this morning, according to a press release from the Caldwell County Constable’s Office, Precinct 3. The deputy, identified as Aaron Armstrong, was killed by a wanted felon during an altercation.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred at 2:00 a.m. when 28-year-old Thomas Vences, of Austin, Texas, was removed from the club by Deputy Armstrong for causing a disturbance. Vences reportedly punched Armstrong and fled to the parking lot. When Armstrong attempted to arrest him, Vences allegedly pulled out a gun and fired multiple times, resulting in the deputy’s death. Vences then escaped in a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Ronaldo Calindres-Simonin, of Austin, Texas, who reportedly ran over Armstrong’s body with the vehicle.<\/p>\n
Vences, who has an extensive criminal record and was on probation, was apprehended and charged with capital murder. Calindres-Simonin was also apprehended, according to the press release.
