{"id":112638,"date":"2026-01-06T11:56:35","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T11:56:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/112638\/"},"modified":"2026-01-06T11:56:35","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T11:56:35","slug":"att-to-move-global-headquarters-to-dfw-suburb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/112638\/","title":{"rendered":"AT&#038;T To Move Global Headquarters To DFW Suburb"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">AT&amp;T plans to move its global headquarters out of Dallas proper and build a new corporate campus 20 miles north in Plano.<\/p>\n<p>                        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/placeholder.png\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Placeholder\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\n      Courtesy of Downtown Dallas Inc.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      Visitors to downtown gather at the AT&amp;T Discovery District.\n    <\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The new campus will be on 54 acres at 5400 Legacy Drive, according to a statement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bisnow.com\/tags\/at&amp;t\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">AT&amp;T<\/a>\u00a0shared with Bisnow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThis location will provide us with the necessary room to cost effectively consolidate all Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex administrative space, including our three largest locations in Central Dallas, Plano and Irving, and create a corporate campus designed for collaboration, innovation and engagement,\u201d CEO\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bisnow.com\/tags\/john-stankey\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">John Stankey<\/a>\u00a0said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The global telecommunications titan said it\u00a0hopes to begin moving into its new space during the second half of 2028.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The decision comes after almost a year of \u201cconsideration, deliberation and planning,\u201d according to Stankey. Company officials reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bisnow.com\/dallas-ft-worth\/news\/office\/at-all-costs-dallas-wants-to-keep-att-hq-in-city-130802\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">toured office space<\/a> in Dallas-Fort Worth suburbs such as Irving, Plano and Richardson during the summer and fall of last year. Meanwhile, downtown officials swore to retain AT&amp;T \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bisnow.com\/dallas-ft-worth\/news\/office\/at-all-costs-dallas-wants-to-keep-att-hq-in-city-130802\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">at all costs<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">AT&amp;T has had its headquarters in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bisnow.com\/tags\/downtown-dallas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Downtown Dallas<\/a> since 2008 and has a lease at Whitacre Tower through 2030.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The move is expected to improve the employee experience at AT&amp;T, as the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/business\/real-estate\/2026\/01\/05\/att-building-new-headquarters-plano\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">told The Dallas Morning News<\/a> that the new location would shorten the commute for the majority of its North Texas workers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">AT&amp;T required all office employees to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bisnow.com\/national\/news\/office\/more-than-half-of-fortune-100-employees-are-in-office-full-time-130262\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">return in person five days a week<\/a>\u00a0starting in January of last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThe nature of the company and our work have both evolved significantly since we moved our headquarters to Dallas in 2008, but what hasn&#8217;t changed is our belief and confidence in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex as the right place to operate a thriving multinational corporation,\u201d Stankey said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">AT&amp;T spent $100M to open its Discovery District in Downtown Dallas in 2021. The company had nearly 6,000 employees at its downtown offices in 2022, according to the DMN.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Should AT&amp;T completely move out of the city, Dallas property values could drop by 30% and lead to the loss of $62M in annual property tax revenue, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/dallas\/news\/2025\/09\/02\/kimberly-tolbert-att-future-dallas.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dallas Business Journal reported last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cAT&amp;T\u2019s transition will be gradual, and the company will remain part of our city\u2019s fabric in the years ahead,\u201d Dallas City Manager\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bisnow.com\/tags\/kimberly-bizor-tolbert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kimberly Bizor Tolbert<\/a>\u00a0told the DMN.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">AT&amp;T&#8217;s desire for a \u201cnew horizontal location with significant acreage for development\u201d was the tipping point for the move, Tolbert said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">DFW developer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bisnow.com\/tags\/nexpoint\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NexPoint<\/a> previously announced plans to build a 4M SF project with labs and manufacturing space for life sciences companies at the site of AT&amp;T\u2019s new campus.
