This location happens to be located in Lubbock at a box that was installed back in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Infant Safe After Being Surrendered in Lubbock<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.everythinglubbock.com\/news\/watch-lubbock-fire-rescue-makes-announcement-about-safe-haven-baby-boxes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">KAMC<\/a>, Lubbock Fire Rescue Chief Richard Stewart announced that a mother had surrendered her newborn baby at Fire Station 9 by using the Safe Haven Baby Box. KAMC reports that the baby is safe and is now being cared by medical and child welfare professionals.<\/p>\n<p>How Does The Safe Haven Baby Box Work?<\/p>\n<p>When a parent walks up to the box, they open it and can take the orange bag that is filled with resources. The baby can then be placed in the box. Once the baby is placed in the box and the box is closed, a signal is sent to the fire station and 911. According to a press release, the average time babies are in the box is 2 minutes. The law says that parents in a crisis can surrender their unharmed infant up to 60 days old safely and anonymously.
