{"id":113807,"date":"2026-01-07T06:19:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T06:19:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/113807\/"},"modified":"2026-01-07T06:19:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T06:19:06","slug":"richardson-to-host-free-health-activities-as-part-of-statewide-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/113807\/","title":{"rendered":"Richardson to host free health activities as part of statewide challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRichardson is gearing up for this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/txcommunitychallenge.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Healthier Texas Community Challenge<\/a>, an eight-week competition that encourages healthy activity.<\/p>\n<p>Richardson will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DSi-gCJDjB0\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">host<\/a> a number of free health and wellness events over the next few months as part of the challenge, Corporate Recreation Manager Ashley Wakefield told City Council on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cor.net\/home\/showpublisheddocument\/45082\/639026208907734098\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jan. 5<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>How it works<\/p>\n<p>The statewide health challenge aims to help people start the new year with healthy habits. After registering for free through the <a href=\"https:\/\/txcommunitychallenge.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">community challenge website<\/a>, participants can earn points by logging their healthy actions, such as meals or physical activity. Their points contribute to both an individual and a city ranking.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s happening<\/p>\n<p>The challenge runs from Jan. 20 to March 15, and Richardson is kicking off the competition with an event Jan. 17 at Huffhines Recreation Center. There will be free Zumba, yoga and door prizes starting at 9 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Richardson will also host free classes and events throughout the challenge starting Jan. 24, including dance fitness, yoga and nutrition and cooking classes.
