The\u00a0Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service<\/a>\u00a0will host a septic system clinic for residents in the Joe Pool Lake and Village Creek-Lake Arlington Watersheds in Alvarado on Jan. 13 from 1:30-3:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

The clinic is free, but an\u00a0RSVP<\/a>\u00a0is requested. The event will take place at the Johnson County Precinct 3 Maintenance Facility, 10420 E. Farm-to-Market Road 917.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The clinic will provide homeowners with information about financial assistance available for septic system repairs and replacement. It is open to residents in Dallas, Ellis, Johnson and Tarrant counties and aims to protect local water quality by\u00a0promoting proper septic system maintenance and providing information on grant eligibility.<\/p>\n

About the clinic<\/p>\n

The Joe Pool Lake and Village Creek-Lake Arlington Watershed Partnerships are leading a grant program offering up to $8,000 in financial aid to eligible homeowners with failing septic systems. The effort supports the long-term health of nearby waterways by reducing potential sources of pollution.<\/p>\n

During the clinic, participants will learn how home septic systems, also known as on-site sewage facilities, function and why regular maintenance is critical. Failing systems can discharge harmful bacteria and other pollutants into surrounding streams and lakes, posing risks to both public health and aquatic ecosystems.<\/p>\n

About the partnership<\/p>\n

The watershed partnerships represent a collaboration among the Trinity River Authority of Texas; the cities of Cedar Hill, Grand Prairie, Mansfield, Midlothian, and Arlington;\u00a0Texas A&M AgriLife Research<\/a>; AgriLife Extension; the\u00a0Texas Commission on Environmental Quality<\/a>; and local stakeholders. The initiative focuses on addressing water quality concerns in the Joe Pool Lake and Village Creek-Lake Arlington watersheds.<\/p>\n

Funding and support for the Joe Pool Lake and Village Creek-Lake Arlington Watershed Protection Plans is provided through Clean Water Act nonpoint source grants from the\u00a0U.S. Environmental Protection Agency<\/a>,\u00a0which is administered by the\u00a0Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.<\/p>\n
