CIUDAD JUAREZ, MEXICO (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 The state of Chihuahua has made a reduction in homicides and high-impact crimes, marking a significant turning point in its battle against violence, according to Chihuahua state officials. <\/p>\n
Over the first 52 months of the current administration, the Secretar\u00eda de Seguridad P\u00fablica del Estado reported an 18% net reduction in homicide victims, equating to 1,895 lives saved compared to the previous period, officials said. <\/p>\n
This progress made 2025 the first year since 2016 to close with fewer than 2,000 homicides statewide.<\/p>\n
Ciudad Ju\u00e1rez, once the epicenter of violence, saw a 20% reduction in homicides, with 2025 ending with 927 cases\u2014177 fewer than the previous year, according to state officials. <\/p>\n
This marks the first time since 2017 that the city recorded fewer than 1,000 annual homicides. <\/p>\n
The state capital also reported significant progress, closing 2025 with 320 homicides, a 26% decrease from 2024.<\/p>\n
Other regions, including Parral, Cuauht\u00e9moc, Madera, and Bocoyna, experienced notable declines in homicides, with reductions ranging from 13% to 55%. <\/p>\n
Officials said the state has also made strides in operational results, bringing 16,930 alleged criminals to justice and seizing a substantial cache of weapons, ammunition, and drugs.<\/p>\n
State officials said vehicle theft dropped 26%, home burglaries fell 42%, and business robberies without violence decreased 21%. Organized crime activities, such as drug dealing and extortion, saw reductions of 47% and 49%, respectively, according to Mexican officials. <\/p>\n
