Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai will temporarily work from home after undergoing a medical procedure over the holidays, he said in a video posted Wednesday on his Instagram account.<\/p>\n

Sakai said his doctors had been monitoring an enlarged prostate for several years, adding that his urologist recently discovered an anomaly. After the doctors ruled out cancer, they performed a procedure at University Hospital, which resolved Sakai\u2019s symptoms.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to sincerely thank the world-class doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals at University Health who took such care of me,\u201d Sakai said in the two-minute clip. \u201cTheir partnership with UT Health Sciences Center brings medical expertise and medical services to all who come to the hospitals and clinics.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although Sakai will work from home while he recovers, he reiterated that he and his team remain fully committed to continuing their work for Bexar County residents.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the first time 70-year-old Sakai has dealt with medical issues during his first term as Bexar County judge. In 2023, Sakai underwent knee surgery after suffering a fall at the state capitol in Austin that also broke his ankle.<\/p>\n

Sakai\u2019s most recent medical procedure comes as he undertakes a battle against former Mayor Ron Nirenberg in the Democratic primary. Election Day for the primaries is set for March 3.<\/p>\n
