The NBA Trade deadline is a wild time every year. Even when it\u2019s boring, the anticipation, the rumors, and the conversations continue at a rapid pace. This year should be no different, and for the Dallas Mavericks, the range of outcomes is far and wide.<\/p>\n
The Mavericks have actually made an in-season trade for seven straight years. Given the state of the team, the front office *should* make it eight straight years. But seeing as how the team doesn\u2019t have a listed General Manager (just two interim GMs, held over from the previous administration, I suppose anything is possible.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s trade deadline is Thursday, February 5th, at 2pm CST. That means trades must be phoned in (literally) by this deadline, although there is a queue. As long as teams are in that queue, trades can be processed until it\u2019s completed. This will be updated and republished regularly until the deadline passes. January 7th – After the Hawks trade Trae Young, Anthony Davis becomes a prime Atlanta trade target<\/p>\n
Following the breaking of the trade, ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania made specific mention<\/a> of Davis as the trade target for Atlanta. If this is a thing, and we have no reason to think it\u2019s not, then open your mind to potential returns for Davis. I have no idea what he can fetch.<\/p>\n January 7th – Mavericks interested in Coby White<\/p>\n According to Brett Siegel over at Clutch Points, the Dallas Mavericks are one of many teams interested in the Chicago guard. In terms of a basketball fit, White would be a no brainer. But since he\u2019s poised to be an unrestricted free agent, I do not think the Mavericks are in a place to commit to him in a big way. Dallas needs to shed money, not take on more future obligations.<\/p>\n January 7th – Anthony Davis\u2019s representatives (Klutch) do not believe Dallas is interested in an extension<\/p>\n This by way of Sam Amick and Christian Clark of The Athletic<\/a>. Let\u2019s be clear here: unless Davis was interested in taking a massive discount, in the range of $25-35 million a year, of course Dallas should not offer him an extension. When Davis plays and is engaged and actually plays his best position, he\u2019s good and effective. But he plays 55 games a year and doesn\u2019t want to play center. He\u2019s not the future for Dallas. This whole charade is annoying.<\/p>\n January 7th – Mavericks interested in Jonathan Kuminga, not interested in Draymond Green<\/p>\n According to a guy over at NBC Sports Bay Area<\/a>, Dallas did make the call about Kuminga that Sam Amick of the Athletic reported last week. But this report says Dallas isn\u2019t interested in Green, which is the only way a Davis deal would even work. So I guess I\u2019m not sure what the Mavericks would be offering. Gafford perhaps? Consider me out on Kuminga; if he thinks Steve Kerr is a mean coach, Jason Kidd would break his pysche.<\/p>\n January 6th – The Raptors are still interested in Anthony Davis<\/p>\n Jake Fischer said this on his Bleacher Report show today<\/a>. This is one of those rumors that was reported on earlier in the season when it was clear Dallas was stanky and that they needed to start to assess options.<\/p>\n January 6th – Hawks are playing hardball with the Mavericks<\/p>\n According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype<\/a>, things between the Hawks and Mavericks are at a bit of a stalemate. Of course, that may have to do with the discussions between the Hawks and Wizards regarding Trae Young, but it seems as if Dallas may be asking for too much when it comes to moving Anthony Davis. Scotto says the Hawks are not keen on moving former number 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher and that the Mavericks have been focusing on prying away the 2026 first-round pick sent to Atlanta by New Orleans.<\/p>\n Which, let\u2019s be clear, if Dallas gets that pick for Anthony Davis, give whoever locks down that trade the keys to the kingdom. Perhaps things start moving once Young is moved.<\/p>\n December 30th – Risacher could be key piece if Dallas trades Anthony Davis to Atlanta<\/p>\n
