Each spring, a quiet corner of Plano transforms into something extraordinary. At St. Andrew Methodist Church, hundreds of young women step into the St. Andrew Prom Closet and leave not just with a dress, but with confidence, joy and the feeling of being truly seen.<\/p>\n
Now in its 17th year, the St. Andrew Prom Closet will open its doors Feb. 24\u201328 and March 2\u20135 and 7, 2026, offering free prom dresses and accessories to girls from anywhere who need support making prom night possible.<\/p>\n
A Full Prom Look, At No Cost<\/p>\n
Girls who attend the prom closet are invited to choose a dress and complete their look with shoes, jewelry, handbags and wraps, all provided at no cost. The experience is intentionally designed to feel like a boutique shopping appointment, not a giveaway. Each student is paired with a volunteer \u201cpersonal shopper\u201d who helps her select pieces that fit both her style and her moment.<\/p>\n
Appointments are required to ensure a smooth, unrushed experience. Registration for shoppers and volunteers opens Monday, Jan. 26, with 40 shopping spots available during each 90-minute time slot. Each shopper must be present to select her own items and may bring one guest age 16 or older.<\/p>\n

A Community Effort With Expanding Reach<\/p>\n
What began in 2009, serving 35 local students, has grown into a far-reaching ministry. In 2025 alone, the prom closet served 1,323 girls from 322 schools and 110 school districts. Over the years, participants have traveled from across Texas and neighboring states, as well as from countries including France, Germany, Poland, Switzerland and Thailand. Last year, more than 1,300 volunteers helped make the event possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the St. Andrew Methodist Women, the Prom Closet truly is a year-round labor of love,\u201d said Rev. Arthur Jones, senior pastor of St. Andrew. \u201cThey create an environment where every girl feels loved, valued and beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n
How The Community Can Help<\/p>\n
To support the 2026 prom closet, St. Andrew is currently collecting donations of gently used or new dresses (sizes 0\u201330), shoes, jewelry, handbags and wraps. Donations can be dropped off at St. Andrew Methodist Church, 1401 Mira Vista Blvd., just inside the north entry doors. Specific drop-off hours are listed on the Prom Closet website.<\/p>\n
